Books: For a new modder or just an owner of the Farming Simulator series, there's a lot of valueable information resources out there on the Internet. Many of these resources may be somewhat outdated, even from GIANTS Software's side. You can do game modding in an easy way or complex way, but there are 'standards' that need to be followed - especially when it comes to XML files and releationship between files within mods.
You may want to do 3D models such as vehicles or just decorative assets for a map, or to play with XMLs or LUA-programming to modify vehicle/tool behaviour and so on. Anyway, the lack of knowledge is the first obstacle every new modder will face in the beginning. This one is major until you get a free e-book published by GIANTS Software and Manuel Leithner. The book was introduced at FarmCon 24, and will give you an intro to GIANTS Editor. See the video below for more detailed information.
If you search for Scripting Farming Simulator with LUA on the web, you will find some websites where the book can be downloaded for free. The book itself is about 343 pages long. It gives you a nice introduction to modding and is an essential guide about the basics and more advanced topics.
This book is a great start for you if you are curious about modding a game that is essentially more or less a giant sandbox game.
