Several tools can be used for making Farming Simulator mods. Let’s start with all the tools made by GIANTS Software.

GIANTS Software Tools

GIANTS Editor (maps/vehicles)The main editor for visual editing and working with i3D files, materials, shaders and more. Download here
GIANTS Studio (maps/vehicles)An alternative editor for working with LUA, I3D, XML, GDM, GRLE, GIM and other files in a coding environment.Download here
GRLE Converter (maps)A simple file converter for converting GRLE and GDM files to PNG, and view data for GRLE and GDM files.Download here
Test Runner (maps/vehicles)A simple file converter for converting GRLE and GDM files to PNG, and viewing data for GRLE and GDM files.Download here
GIANTS Texture Tool (maps/vehicles)A simple file converter for textures which can convert PNGs into DDS files, for all types of texture maps (diffuse, normal, specular, alpha, height, vmask and more). Download here

Plugins

Plugins are primarily designed to convert files from other applications supported by GIANTS Engine/GIANTS Editor. Usually, these plugins create files that can be imported into GIANTS Editor, primarily I3D files.

GIANTS Blender Exporter PluginA plugin that works with the popular open-source software called Blender, mainly for creating individual i3D files from assets made with Blender.Download here
Stjerneidioten I3D Blender AddonA plugin based on the GIANTS Blender Exporter Plugin, but with exoanded features. Download here
Maya Exporter PluginA plugin based on the GIANTS Blender Exporter Plugin, but with expanded features. Download here
3ds Max Exporter Plugin Another plugin for another Autodesk product that hasn’t been updated for a while. Download here

3D Applications

Applications like these are used to create visual computer graphics, known as 3D models. These are also referred to as 3D meshes. A 3D mesh is the structural framework of a three-dimensional digital model, defined by a collection of vertices (points), edges (lines), and faces (polygons) that determine an object’s shape, volume, and surface.

Game assets are primarily files or collections of files that use texture maps (materials) and 3D/2D meshes.

Since some of these applications listed below can export to FBX files, we can import them into Blender, process them, and then export them from Blender to GIANTS Editor. The same can be done by importing Wavefront OBJ files exported from other applications into Blender.

BlenderThe primary open-source application for making meshes, making materials, making UV maps, animations and also assigning shaders. Download here
Wings 3DWings 3D offers a wide range of modelling tools, a customizable interface, support for lights and materials, and a built-in AutoUV mapping facility. This is open-source software. Exports to common 3D file formats, such as .obj.Download here
BforartistsBforartists is an open-source 3D suite for creating CG content. It offers you the full 3D art pipeline for creating game graphics, pre-rendered movies, and stills. This one looks pretty much the same as Blender, but with a different user interface and the same file exporters. Download here
Rhino 3DRhinoceros 3D (Rhino) is a versatile, commercial 3D computer graphics and CAD application software. It is primarily used for creating, editing, analysing, and rendering non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) curves, surfaces, and solids. Exports to OBJ and FBX.
Price (2026): $195 for students/faculty.
